So often obstacles seem to be plopped into our lap, making us have to re-convict every day towards the choices and goals we want. These challenges are sometimes placed into our lives from others. Sometimes we create our own challenges. They’re unique to us. But here’s the good news: you’re the expert on overcoming your own challenges! I peradventure to say that you know yourself pretty darn well, your rationalization techniques, your self-rewarding or self-berating, you know your strengths & weaknesses, you know the pitfalls to avoid and the things that make you feel wonderful. No matter how chaotic life seems, there’s always a challenge that we can come up with a workaround for, a choice to skirt around the obstacle, to live life courageously and resiliently.
I came across this and loved it!
“If controlling life is an impossibility–nothing more than a dangling carrot–then what’s the answer? The answer is to resurrect a feeling of self-trust and confidence so, rather than controlling life, you’re courageous enough to live it.”
-Dr. Joseph J. Luciani
I’m lucky enough to know each you personally (which probably won’t always be the case in Prana’s future) and I know that you’ve done the hardest part already in your journey to live courageously- you took the first step! You set a goal. You told others about it. You’ve come up with a plan for slowly placing one foot in front of the other and to continue moving. In yoga, we like to say that the hardest part of it all is just making it to your mat.
Now that the hardest part is done and you’ve started this journey, it’s about the daily choices of learning to live courageously and to trust your own resiliency and strength. Chaotic things happen. Unexpected things get dumped in our laps. We can’t control everything that happens to us. But we CAN control how we react to it. We can choose to challenge our excuses. We can chose to do the best we can with the situation we’re in.
I love this little quote because it reminds me that even though life is crazy, I can choose how to react to it. Every step further I take on my own physical and emotional journey towards health, I gain more confidence and self-trust. It snowballs. I look forward to a courageous week of living a daring life. C’mon, challenges & stress. I’m waiting for you with a sweet punch, cross, jab :). You ain’t got nothin’ on this!
How do you manage unexpected things that pop up in your life and threaten to derail your progress or committment?
