Thrive

Check-in and let us know how you’re doing!  Any creative ideas for avoiding your kids’ trick-or-treat stashes?  I heard of a friend who puts the candy in an opaque out-of-sight-out-of-mind bag in the freezer to then stuff Christmas stockings with (but I don’t understand this b/c doesn’t Santa do that?).  You could take some to your office and leave in the breakroom for the starving interns to devour.   A lot of dental offices offer the promotion where kids can trade in their candy for money or prizes, a lb per dollar ratio or something like that.  Just a thought! 🙂

Today’s post is about choosing to THRIVE instead of just survive.  This is the nugget for consideration that I shared yesterday with my yoga students.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”  -Maya Angelou

On your yoga mat, don’t just physically put your body here and put your mind outside accomplishing a never-ending list.  BE HERE. Be present.  Feel alive.  Thrive and flourish.  Find relationships and interconnectedness with every living thing in the world, with every person in this room, with every molecule of air, and with every cell of your being.  Inhale, feel.  Exhale, savor.  Choose to thrive.  Choose to practice yoga with passion.  Choose to practice yoga with compassion.  Choose to practice yoga with humor.  Choose to practice yoga with your own style.

Inhale, feel.  Exhale, savor.  Choose to thrive.  Choose to live and love with passion.  Choose to live with compassion.  Choose to live and love with humor.  Choose to live with your own style. Choose to not merely survive, but to thrive.

How would this apply to you & your lives today?  It’s an amazing gift to simply be alive, to have the body you have, to have the free choice to do with it what you want.  You take that gift for granted when you just barely scrape by, surviving, not living fully, taking sips of air instead of big nourishing breaths, or abusing your body.  You show gratitude for that gift by living life to the fullest, extending the fire of life through ever fiber of your being, being 100% in any given situation you’re in like giving a child 100% of your attention and love when you’re playing, giving a workout 100% of your passion and energy, giving a friend 100% of your attention when she’s/he’s in need, giving your yoga/meditation 100% of your body and soul, giving your sig other 100% of your heart, giving the present moment 100% of your attention, giving your dreams 100% credibility, giving your rest and relaxation 100%.  Don’t just survive, but be totally alive, THRIVE.
